They say it’s about the journey, not the destination. To be honest, I didn’t know what to expect from this drive from Indio to Joshua Tree, California, but it turned out to be one of my top drives of the year – and I didn’t even get out of second gear. To get across Berdoo Canyon Road, the Rubicon’s standard equipment was called into action, and the locking diffs and the sway bar disconnect had to be used a couple of times.
The scenery is gorgeous here, on both the Indio and Joshua Tree ends of the trail, and these are parts of California I’ve never seen before. It’s breathtaking and I recommend it. And to take a bone stock Wrangler Rubicon on a trail like this – and to know that it’s entirely capable – is simply amazing.
