Infiniti has released teaser photos prior to the debut of the QX50 Concept at the 2017 North American International Auto Show. The QX50 Concept promises to be a modern, tech-filled replacement for the company’s mid-sized crossover.
The photos show the QX50 Concept in near production spec, giving fans of the luxury crossover a good hint at the final look of the all new QX50 replacement.
Infiniti execs said that QX50 Concept highlights future tech including autonomous driving systems, en route to fulfilling parent company Nissan’s promise of offering fully autonomous vehicles by 2020. The company also hints that the QX50 production crossover could be powered by the company’s innovative variable compression ratio, turbocharged, four cylinder engine.
While the crossover shown here is a concept, this engine has been in development for some time and is said to be finally ready for prime time, perhaps powering the production QX50. (Reading between the lines of the press release suggests that this will be the QX50’s engine.) Compression ratios range for 8.0:1 to 14.0:1, which varies under driving conditions to optimize both power and efficiency.
