The Aston Martin Vanquish is known for a few things and being one of the world’s finest GTs is certainly one of them. While all models in the company’s range have improved S specs, save the DB11, for the first time the Vanquish is getting Aston Martin’s S designation.
Having the best name in the history of the automobile is perhaps a burden for this classic British grand tourer, but finally this Aston has had its performance dialed up to deserve the letter S on its boot lid.
The big V12 now makes 580 horsepower, up from 568, courtesy of larger intake manifolds, and the excellent eight-speed automatic transmission has been recalibrated for quicker shifts and better low-speed drivability, not that the Vanquish needed improvement in these areas. The company says the Vanquish S is good for zero to 100 km/h in three and a half seconds.
On the outside, there are subtle changes to the aerodynamic package with a redesigned front splitter and rear diffuser that reduce lift without adding any meaningful drag. The carbon fibre boot lid with its distinctive integrated spoiler remains and, in fact, all Vanquish body panels are indeed crafted from carbon fibre. Top speed is said to be 295 km/h.
Underneath, the suspension has been revised with spring rate tweaks, new anti-roll bar bushings, and recalibrated damping rates. The superb combination of ride and handling was already a strong suit of the Vanquish, so expect the Vanquish S to have even better on road poise.
Aston Martin President & CEO, Dr. Andy Palmer, said of the improved GT, “From the moment the original Vanquish was launched it became a modern icon. It propelled Aston Martin from an era of hand-built cars to one where craftsmanship and technology combined to create a new kind of great British GT. In its second generation the Vanquish maintained that momentum with huge engineering advances such as its all-carbon fibre bodywork and compelling, contemporary styling. Now, the Vanquish S takes things a step further, confidently asserting itself within the Aston Martin range and distinguishing itself from the new DB11. A spectacular machine in every sense, the Vanquish S is a magnificent addition to our range.”
Deliveries start in spring 2017 and Canadian pricing hasn’t been set at the time of writing.
We can’t wait for a proper test and, until then, enjoy the Vanquish S gallery below and our video review of the 2015 Aston Martin Vanquish.
